Empowering Young Single Mothers Through Education

Empowering Young Single Mothers Through Education

At the heart of transformation lies education, hope, and opportunity. This initiative is dedicated to preparing TVET institutions to reintegrate young single mothers back into learning, empowering them with practical skills, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Every young mother deserves a second chance to pursue her dreams, rebuild her future, and create a better life for her child. Through technical and vocational education, mentorship, and community support, we are breaking barriers, restoring dignity, and unlocking endless possibilities for women who refuse to give up on their future.

This is more than education — it is restoration, empowerment, and social transformation. By investing in young single mothers today, we are building stronger families, resilient communities, and a more inclusive society for tomorrow.

“Motherhood is not the end of a dream — it is the beginning of a stronger purpose.”

Tecklar Atieno: Turning a Passion for Cooking into a Career in Nutrition

Tecklar Atieno, a Food and Beverage Production trainee at Akado Vocational training center is transforming her love for cooking into a meaningful career pathway. Inspired by her Home Science studies in high school, she chose to deepen her knowledge in food preparation, nutrition, and hospitality, and is determined to turn her passion into a profession. Her long-term goal is to become a nutritionist, and to use her expertise to promote healthy eating habits. She also dreams of starting her own food-related business.

Through her training, Tecklar is gaining more than culinary skills. She is building confidence, independence, and practical knowledge that will allow her to support herself and contribute meaningfully to society. She hopes to use her skills to prepare healthy meals for her family, educate her community on proper nutrition and hygiene, and model professionalism and responsibility in her work.

Tecklar believes that TVET institutions should be safe, respectful spaces where girls and women are treated equally, supported through mentorship, and given full access to learning resources without discrimination. Her encouragement to other young women is “Believe in yourself and do not be afraid to pursue technical skills. With hard work and determination, you can build a career you are proud of.” #IWD2026 #NikosetnaTVET
